Ingram Micro's parent company, HNA, has denied rumours that it's looking to sell the distributor, despite reports to the contrary circling last week.

One of HNA's subsidiaries, Tianjin Tianhai Investment, suspended trading on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) last week, with an announcement due to be made yesterday.

That sparked rumours that US-based distributor Synnex could buy Ingram Micro.

But HNA this week claimed that was incorrect, according to Reuters, issuing a statement through its investments subsidiary to the SSE that read: "Ingram Micro is an important, strategic investment project to the company and is a key cornerstone and asset to the company’s transformation and development."

HNA announced yesterday that Hong Kong International Investment, another of its subsidiaries had secured funding to repay loans it took on to develop property in Hong Kong.

Although the company didn't say whether that was the "major announcement", it could be that HNA wanted to make sure the decision won't impact the share value of its other companies, explaining it wants to verify "significant issues to related parties".

An Ingram Micro spokesperson emailed a statement to Channel Pro, reading: "We have spoken with executives at HNA Group and Tianhai Investment who have confirmed that the trading halt in Tianhai Investment shares is not related to any plan to sell Ingram Micro.

"Per these HNA executives, Ingram Micro is a major strategic investment for HNA Group and a cornerstone in Tianhai Investment's development and technology transformation. It continues to be business as usual at Ingram Micro, as it has been since before we were acquired by HNA Group in December 2016."

HNA bought Ingram Micro for $6 billion at the time.
