Pure Storage has said the channel had a big part to play in the company's positive second quarter results, with cloud customers also contributing to revenue gains of 92.8% year-on-year.

"We are delighted to report another great quarter with record revenue," Pure Storage CEO Scott Dietzen said.

"We are very pleased with the growth of the business in the July quarter, driven by solid repeat purchase rates, by partnering with the channel to accelerate our go-to-market, by healthy demand from cloud customers ‒ which accounts for more than 25% of our business ‒ and by growing sales to international customers, who made up 25% of revenue."

The company has taken onboard 350 new customers in the quarter, including some pretty huge ones such as British Airways, The University of Tokyo and Sally Beauty Supply. This extra business has helped it reach 20 per cent of the Fortune 500 and boosting its gross margin too, with an average $12 in incremental purchases from the top 25 customers within 18 months of purchase.

"We continue to execute well against our operating plan," Pure Storage CFO Tim Riitters said. "While driving rapid growth, we also significantly improved operating margin year over year. We nearly doubled our business over the last year, while at the same time cutting our operating losses almost 40%."

"We are uniquely well positioned to execute on our vision of building a profitable, multi-billion dollar business and the #1 global brand in storage over the next few years," Dietzen added.

Although the company started shipping FlashBlad in the second quarter, it hasn't impacted results as yet, although Dietzen said he expects it to have an effect in the company's third quarter results.
