Panasonic has recruited 60 partners to sell its Toughbook tablet across Europe, with all joining its rugged mobile device-focused Edge channel programme.

The company set up the programme to snatch a share of the rugged handheld market from competitors such as Honeywell, Datalogic and Zebra Technologies.

Handheld devices now make up a third of Panasonic's rugged mobile device range sales, and contribute a significant amount of revenue to its bottom line. In the last year, the sector has grown by 176%, according to VDC Research.

Panasonic's dedicated handheld channel programme seeks to reward VARs to push its solutions out into the market, offering dedicated marketing, sales and technical support and attractive incentives for businesses that meet its qualification criteria.

“The new resellers will have a proven track record in the delivery of value-added, rugged handheld solutions covering hardware, software and services,” said Steven Vindevogel, sales director at Panasonic Toughbook. “As the new partners agree and then achieve sales targets they will be promoted through the three-tier channel programme.”

Panasonic is now looking for more European resellers to join its line-up, selling its devices such as the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-F1 & FZ-N1 handheld tablets. It will work closely with its new distributor Scansource to find and enroll them into the Edge programme.

It's taking aim at the transportation and logistics, retail and manufacturing industries and as such, is looking for partners specialising in the field service, supply chain and proof of delivery verticals.
