Mayflex steps up to dementia

£20 banknotes spread unevenly over a surface.

A team of eight staff from distributor Mayflex will be taking on a challenge to walk a 23 mile stretch of Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The challenge takes place on Saturday August 2, 2014 and sets off from Carlisle and takes an estimated 12 hours to complete. The team includes Gary Harmer, director of sales, Electronic Security, Anita Mistry, director of sales, Networking, Tracey Calcutt, marketing manager, Lyn Gale, group finance manager, Liz Evans, projects manager, Amanda Sheppard, projects team account manager, Susan Janjua, admin support and Leah Atherton, customer services.

Tracey Calcutt explains that the cause is close to the employees’ hearts: “Sadly, there are a few of us at Mayflex that have close relatives that suffer from the condition and so we know firsthand just how cruel this disease is.”

She continues: “Dementia is terminal and there is no cure and compared to other major killers such as heart disease and cancer much more needs to be done to find a cure or to at least prolong the deterioration of the person diagnosed with dementia.

“We would like to raise as much money as possible to help fund more research into Alzheimer's and Vascular Dementia and to help those people that already have it or need help looking after someone – we would be extremely grateful to anyone that would like to sponsor us,” she adds.
