There has been a 450% increase in the number of people looking to learn skills around decentralised blockchain applications, according to a new report.

The Q1 2022 Workplace Learning Index, carried out by online learning portal Udemy, found that in 2022, lessons on decentralised blockchain applications were the leading courses among global learners in technology and power skills.

Technology skills in decentralised apps (dApps) and platforms such as Binance, in particular, saw more than a 450% increase in usage compared to Q4 of 2021.

Globally, interest in learning skills in Openstack Cloud grew by 444%, while FastAPI skills increased by 304%.

The report also found that people taking courses in learning skills in work efficiency and personal success also saw increases of 98% and 92% respectively, as people looked to enhance their leadership capabilities.

Courses for AWS Certified DevOps Engineer and Laravel were the top two skills surging in popularity in the UK (202% and 168% respectively). The next three were Cucumber Software (118%), GitHub (108%), Apache Maven (107%).

Bill O’Shea, Udemy EMEA vice president, said that ensuring workforces have access to learning materials and opportunities to upskill has “never been more relevant than in this ever-changing corporate landscape”.

“For British employees, we’re seeing a rapid rise in blockchain upskilling, which demonstrates that this continues to be one of the fastest-growing areas within the employment market. Learners are being savvy in preparing themselves for further developments and understanding of this area as it continues to dominate,” he added.

The latest index is based on data from the learning behaviour of thousands of companies across the globe using the Udemy Business platform. Skills data compares the consumption of courses in the Udemy Business collection from Q4 2021 to Q1 2022.

The firm said that the report highlights skills corporate leaders and employees see as must-haves tools to “accelerate their growth and maintain a competitive edge”.
